Well, that was fucking tough

Thursday, intervals day, it’s pissed down with rain for days and tonight’s delight is zigzags. Like seriously, when is this running lark going to throw me something nicer than a bone ?

In line with my current process for surviving Thursdays (I don’t want to put anyone off, but it’s never an easy running night) I set off early and ran to where the session is on my own, it means I can run slower and actually get a minute to recover when I arrive. Today I arrived in time to do 3 (yes 3) solo trips up the zigzags before the rest of the group arrived. I was pleased with myself for actually getting on and running all the way up them on my own without Annette nagging me. Even when on effort 3 I stopped 3/4 of the way up I managed to talk myself out of quitting and finished the set by running to the top.

The group arrived so we endured (I mean enjoyed) some skills drills (also known as stupid shit that grown adults shouldn’t do, like skipping and high knees exercises)

Then we are into “up and overs” up the zigzags and down the other side, then back up and down the zig zags.

On the face of it, my pace was totally rubbish, I was about to get totally pissed off, I’d worked really hard, not messed about like I normally do, I was out of breath the whole night, and yet ….. slow, slow, slow.

So I dug deeper, and found this! Which (thankfully) shows that actually my pace was pretty damned good considering it was up and down the hill.

17 days until my training plan starts again, and for now, I’m relaxed about my running, but I am making a determined effort to try really hard when I do go. I hope it pays off.
